The logo stands for Momo Luna S!gnals. She also signs her work with this logo. Momo Luna is a nod to Mona Lisa. Monica often hears that she has a beautiful smile. Momo is a pet name for Monica, as a small child she could not pronounce her name. Luna is a reference to dreams. Monica feels a connection with the moon (Luna), she is a night person and a dreamer.
Monica's work stands out because of its shapes and materials. She paints, draws and scratches on canvas and paper. Using ink, pencil, ballpoint pen, acrylic paint, markers, gel pens, stamps. She also makes (digital) collages, clay sculptures and takes photos. There are dots, lines & abstracted shapes that blend with the human figure. These human figures can develop into Gods, icons or demons. Her work is about the human condition and how man relates to nature and each other. You often find references to man and the world around him. Monica shows through her art what is going on in the world. Sometimes very personal, sometimes universal. She sees her work as dreams, as signals, to think about the world, nature and how we as humans interact with each other. There is a lot of light and stars in the work because in these dark times that is sorely needed. A heart under the belt. Monica's work is sometimes experienced as dark, and it is also confronting. Her visual language is intense, powerful and unique. But Monica hopes that her work also works as comfort and hope. That people dare to look and then can draw love from it. For humanity, nature and each other.
